Over the last few years, Te Iwi o Rakaipaaka has been working tirelessly to implement the 5 pou. After visiting and delivering much hui a iwi to listen to what the people wanted, Te Iwi o Rakaipaaka set up the 5 current pou based on what you said.

Manaaki Whanau

Pou led by Trustee & Chairperson - Pauline Symes

Pou

Manaaki whanua / Health care service. So we are made up of a connected network of healthy, strong and nurturing whanau

Activities

Year 1 – 2020

Completed April 2020 through door to door visits – valuable moving forward, we are prepared for any future emergencies, pandemics.

Completed Social Services Provider accredited Level 1 Standard – MSD, MoH, MHUD, MoE Kanga Ora, and TPK Relationships secured – we are delivering a number of whanau support services and housing is on the radar.

Year 3 – 2022

Distributions from Tatau o Te Wairoa assists with gaps of operational requirements – we are not sustainable until we have a economic base to fill this gap – but we are innovative with our funding approaches when we can – we provide and deliver weekly kai to our elderly and open our kai hub weekly to the community in need.

Our contractual arrangements with MSD provide us with the opportunity to implement our Social Services Accreditation Standards Lever 2 – currently this is the extent of our mahi.

  1. We are able to assist our whanau whanui testing positive or impacted by the effects of Covid-19 by;
  • Providing RATs test
  • Clean care packages
  • Kai parcels
  •  Medication pickups from Wairoa
  • Collecting and delivering educational packs to mokopuna, tamariki, and rangatahi that are in isolation
  • Wellbeing information brochures
  • Support for employed whanau isolating
  • Welfare checks and health advocacy

2. Kaumatua Services

  • Providing travel assistance to our kaumatua affected by Health issues
  • Assisting Kaumatua to access online services (eg. banking, shopping, WINZ entitlements, social media, Zoom, Livestream, mobility parking applications
  • Health and well-being checks
  • Meals on wheels to ensure our kaumatua are having a nutritious healthy kai
  • Penehana ra (Outing for Kaumatua)

3. Tamariki Services

  • Currently providing holiday programs so that children are busy during holidays and interacting in positive activities including; arts & crafts, baking & cooking, life skills, educational fun games, Marae-based learning around Tikanga and kawa

4. Health

  • Providing travel assistance for whanau to attend Health appointments in Wairoa
  • Connecting whanau to appropriate support services
  • Pathways to Wellbeing Tikanga-based counselling to overcome life changes (Oranga Hinengaro)

Work in Progress – We aim to provide the following;

  • Safe transitional living and natural healing facilities
  • Rongoa Maori educational workshops to learn the ancient methods of revitalizing, and restoring Rongoa for natural purposes
  • Interactive wananga-based workshops to connect with appropriate counselling services
  • Care services for children at risk
  • Literacy and numeracy workshops focused on financial security
  • Mentoring role model project
  • Papakainga housing workshops

Ngati Rakaipaakatanga

Ngati Rakaipaakatanga – Practicing our Ngati Rakaipaakatanga so that we are te reo experts, living our tikanga, serving our Marae and keeping our identity strong.u

Taiao

Our Taiao is thriving. Protecting and enhancing our Taiao by assisting and encouraging our whanau to be kaitiaki to practice our matauranga Maori in our wai and in, around, and on our whenua.

Activities

Through our MFE and Tatau o Te Wairoa contractual arrangements, we have the ability to wananga and engage our whanau in the review of our Nga Hua o Te Taiao (Resource Management Plan). Opportunities have also allowed us to participate in the current environmental reviews and ensure our whanau aspirations are captured and included in our RMP, we will learn about the actual health of our taiao and be presented with tools and opportunities to be better prepared to address the impacts that may arise by engaging our whanau in training and qualifications.

Morere Hotsprings and Reserve assets are part of the settlement and through Tatauwe are constantly kept involved with whatever DoC are planning for these assets. Discussions have commenced changing the mechanism from RFR to DSP, the reshaping plans are urgently required.
